CONSIDER YOUR SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

The living should know that life is lived once and there are no spare parts for it. So whoever wants to live longer should live responsibly. Sexual affairs have claimed and are still claiming so many lives all over the globe. Am very sure you know this but I feel you need to reconsider it. Is your sexual life style healthy? How about the reproductive health?

The World Health Organization(WHO) defines Sexual health as “a state of physical, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality. It requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence.” But how many of us meet the recommendations as per the above definition? We even don’t know the how of engaging in sexual intercourse. As a result we also have very poor reproductive health. We are not respectful, we engage in forced sex, we rape.
Reproductive health, implies that people are able to have a responsible, satisfying and safe sex life and that they have the capability to reproduce and the freedom to decide if, when and how often to do so. To my dismay, not many women have this freedom to decide. A mother can produce in January and November or December on the same year. This is very risky, but men do not now! Imagine two babies in one year!

Early childbearing and other behaviors have health risks for women and their infants. It is safe waiting until a woman is at least 18 years old before trying to have children. This is good for her and the child’s health. If another child is to be conceived, it is healthier for the mother, as well as for the succeeding child, to wait at least 2 years after the previous birth before attempting to conception. Carrying a pregnancy is very expensive on the mother’s health.

The WHO estimates that each year, 358 000 women die due to complications related to pregnancy and childbirth; 99% of these deaths occur within the most disadvantaged population groups living in the poorest countries of the world. Most of these deaths can be avoided with improving women's access to quality care from a skilled birth attendant before, during and after pregnancy and childbirth.

Who has not seen this in the remote areas world over? Putting this aside, even in some of the health facilities the necessary care is not given to the mothers. Thank you local birth attendants, but a health facility is better.

Men and women should get informed to have access to safe, effective, affordable and acceptable methods of fertility regulation of their choice, and the right of access to appropriate health care services that will enable women to go safely through pregnancy and childbirth and provide couples with the best chance of having a healthy infant.

My call to you my reader this time is that let this begin with you and then the rest. You need to base your sexual life on sound reasoning and to consider the health of the mothers.
